For the first time since President Trump took office, the Governor of California is going along with a “border issue.”After about a week of silence, Governor Brown has now agreed to call up 400-national guard troops to help crack down on crime at the border.“Definitely surprised, but glad that he did it,” said Terry Shigg of the National Border Patrol Council. “They will be doing communications, intelligence and other non-law enforcement duties. They will not be doing any law enforcement actions.”Right now, the border patrol is down about 2000-agents nationwide. The money has been approved, but the hiring has stalled. “We can clearly use the help,” Shigg said. While the numbers of illegal immigrants are the lowest level since 1971, it’s still a huge issue.“We captured 171 thousand people coming across the border so far this year,” Shigg said. But the biggest issue is violent gangs. The President often speaks of “M.S.-13.” They’re primarily a Mexican prison gang, based on the east coast. But they’ve been tracked to Northern California and they are spreading like a cancer.“Drugs and gangs are all tied to an international crime ring. Nothing comes across the border without the permission of the Cartels,” Shigg said.Even though the President and the Governor are polar opposites, somehow they found some common ground on this issue. The President sending a tweet, “thanking” Governor Brown. He even calls him “Jerry.”Now that’s a political breakthrough. Dan Plante Updated: 5:41 PMlast_img
