Share Sharecenter_img 37 Views   no discussions Image via: hurricanezone.netMIAMI, USA — While tropical storm Ophelia has degenerated into a remnant low and is expected to weaken and dissipate in a day or so, tropical storm Philippe has formed over the far eastern Atlantic.According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, at 5:00 pm EDT on Sunday, the center of post-tropical cyclone Ophelia was located about 145 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands and moving west-northwest at 8 mph. Maximum sustained winds were 35 mph, with higher gusts. Meanwhile, the centre of tropical storm Philippe was located about 500 miles west-southwest of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands, moving toward the northwest near 12 mph. A gradual turn toward the north-northwest with a slight decrease in forward speed is expected during the next couple of days. Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph, with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours and Philippe is expected to approach hurricane strength by late Monday.However, on the forecast track, it is not expected to be a threat to the Caribbean.By Caribbean News Now contributor Sharelast_img
