Snax Tigers confident of big season

first_imgLae Snax Tigers are confident of a big season as they lead the points ladder in Pool two after round five of the 2014 Digicel Cup competition.Tigers have proven to be unbeatable after coming out winners in all their matches since round one.Coach Stanley Tepend is overwhelmed with the team’s performance so far.In their recent game against Gulf Isapea, they played well in the first half but took the foot off the gas in the second half.Coach Tepend says  this is one area that needs improvement.“The players still need to polish up on simple errors week in week out, including ball handling and defence.“In terms of playing for a full 80 minutes, most of the players need to work on fitness so they can last longer throughout the game and not wear out too soon,” he said. The Lae based team is mainly made up of a mixture of youth and experienced players like Roy Kela, Sydney Fred, Pasu Awene and Justin Olam.Tepend said that it is still very early in the season and they have a long way to go.“The team’s success comes from the players and their commitment and trust among themselves.“We also have a lot of great hard working people behind the scenes to ensure the players get looked after to perform each week, which is very important,” he said. The coach confirmed that prop Petero Sanivalu will be out for two weeks following a fractured right wrist he sustained from the match over the weekend.Despite the injury, Tigers are confident and looking forward to taking on Goroka Lahanis in round six this weekend.last_img
